For what was originally a very small hamlet of just a handful of properties and the ruins of a fortified manorhouse, there is a lot of interesting history associated with Pengersick. Pengersick which means "Head of the marsh" or "Top of the marsh" derived from the Cornish words "penn" (meaning "head, end, top") and "kersyek" (meaning "abounding in reeds").
Looking at maps of Cornwall dating back to the 15th Century. It is intriguing to see Pengersick was an important landmark at that time and beyond . See Oldmapsonline.org

Its location shows it as a defensive building The position of the house on the coast made it necessary to defend against marauders from the sea, there was a constant threat of invasion due to the various wars between England and Spanish and French. because of the constant threat from the French and Spanish. In 1335 Henry 'Le Fort' Pengersick was excommunicated for assaulting a priest. Then in 1526 John Milliton was involved with the disappearance of valuables from the wreck of the King of Portugal's ship San Antonio. In 1556 William Milliton passed away and left his estate to his 7 daughters. Who not one of them solely could afford to maintain the Tower. The Tower sadly fell into ruins but has been restored in recent years and today is now a wedding venue.
